The village pond was originally created around 1700 as a carp pond to supply fish for Biddenham Manor. It lies on the ancient causeway leading from the village green to the church. In 1706, a dovecote was built nearby to provide meat for the Manor table. The dovecote was demolished in 1966.
Over the years, the pond fell into disuse and became overgrown. In 1986, a group of Biddenham residents, led by Dorothy Richards, began a project to restore the pond to its former glory and, thereafter, keep it alive as a conservation area and village amenity.
The Friends of Biddenham Village Pond help with the continuing conservation work and fund raising needed to maintain the pond. Finance comes mainly from voluntary contributions. Grants and awards have also been received from the Parish Council, Bedfordshire County Council, the Biddenham Show Committee, EB Bedfordshire Limited, Rural Action, and Shell UK Limited.
